Update on Chinese M-visa Invitation Letter application in China

Effective immediately, the Foreign Affairs Offices in China have suspended issuing the Chinese M-visa (Business Visa) Invitation Letter until further notice or unless explicitly required.

Previously, foreign business travellers to China are able to apply for the M-visa with the Invitation Letter issued the Foreign Affairs Offices in China. However, according to the latest regulation, foreign business travellers are now able to provide the Invitation Letter issued by the inviting company in Shanghai directly for the M-visa application.

The only exception to this new regulation is that certain nationalities may still be required to obtain the Invitation Letter from the Foreign Affairs Office in China. It will solely be dependent on the processing China Embassy/Consulate/Visa Application Centre abroad.

At present, the Foreign Affairs Offices in China have not released any listing of nationalities who will still require the official Invitation Letter.

IMPACT

It will lessen the processing time for the application of the M-Visa since the official M-Visa Invitation Letter will no longer be required from the Foreign Affairs Offices in China. An invitation letter from the inviting company will suffice.

However, in view that this new regulation may not apply to all nationals, companies and applicants are advised to still check with the relevant China Embassies/Consulates/Visa Application Centres before filing for the M-Visa just in case the official Invitation Letter is required based on certain nationalities.
