Inspection of Shipments Into Malaysia

Not all items, whether imported or exported, need a license. On the other hand, having a strong understanding of Malaysia’s licensing schemes for imported and exported items will save them from being disallowed by customs officials. We have been advised that Malaysian customs officials are conducting physical examinations of import shipments with more regularity, in particular shipments arriving from China. In some cases, customs will inspect 100% of a shipment’s contents. As a result, clearance may be delayed and additional charges due to demurrage, storage and removal of containers may be incurred.
