Are there good beaches in Darwin?

Mindil Beach is located near Darwin’s town centre and is part of the waterfront area which has several beaches and green spaces for activities. You can find the Sunset Markets there during the dry season. Also along the waterfront is Skycity, Darwin’s casino hotel featuring restaurants, bars and pools and a day spa.

What kind of cultural events are on in Darwin?

On the waterfront is the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, displaying extensive collections including indigenous and rock art, fossils and the region’s seafaring history. Experience an interactive war history curation at the Darwin Military Museum. Darwin Festival in August and Bass in the Grass in May are yearly highlights.

Are there plenty of parks and reserves in Darwin?

The George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens are 2 kilometres north of the CBD. Situated on 42 hectares, the gardens are known for their northern Australian and other tropical plant species. Bicentennial Park is in the city centre, which runs the length of the waterfront and overlooks stunning Darwin Harbour.

Darwin is smallest of Australia’s capital cities with a population of around 145,000 (June 2016).

The smaller population and long freight distances mean higher prices for many goods. Locally grown produce is available in some areas as a supermarket alternative.
