Learn about Bacchus Marsh
Slower pace of life
Bacchus Marsh has a population of just over 20,000, and has a rural and small country town feel. The pace of life is significantly slower and more laidback than neighbouring city Melbourne, with proximity to plenty of nature, shops and facilities. Residents of Bacchus Marsh enjoy a balanced lifestyle, with recreational activities, sports, a low crime rate and more.
Bacchus Marsh has an abundance of fantastic nature spots to explore, like Werribee Gorge State Park. You can find yourself hiking, climbing rocky terrain, swimming, picnicking or simply enjoying the spectacular views. Long Forest Nature Conservation Reserve is another great place to visit, being a 600 hectare wide protected area, with over 400 native plant species and many Australian wildlife including koalas, black-tailed wallabies and over 160 species of birds.
Bacchus Marsh is home to many heritage-listed sites, including the Blacksmith’s Cottage and Shop, the Court House and Manor House. The township has an old history, with remnants from both Aboriginal and European settlement. Many buildings such as several churches date back to the 1800s.
Up and coming town
Despite being a rural country town, Bacchus Marsh is an expanding area, being the second fastest growing regional municipality in Victoria. With an explosion of housing developments and new neighbourhoods underway, and transport infrastructure making travel to Melbourne’s CBD just a 40 minute drive, Bacchus Marsh enjoys the up and coming vibe of a growing township while still being relatively small and cosy.
